The 1st International PPE Symposium on PPE for Agricultural Pesticide Operators was held in Brazil in August 2012. Invited speakers from the United States, European Union, and Brazil presented information about pesticide registration, exposure studies, and PPE requirements. After the symposium, a group eager to continue the PPE risk mitigation dialogue and enrich the science behind risk assessment for pesticide operators discussed forming a coalition of international stakeholders. Since the symposium, this group has drafted an overview document that describes the existing standards and systems related to PPE and a paper that provides information based on the presentations in Brazil.

This 2nd International Symposium will build on existing collaboration to establish a coalition with the goal of seeking harmonized global requirements. The symposium's agenda is designed to foster active discussions. Participation is by invitation only and will be limited to sixty persons. The organizers expect expert representatives from many different countries and regions to attend. The symposium is sponsored by the Benaki Phytopathological Institute. Limited travel funds are available to cover travel and hotel costs of participants who are unable to secure travel funds to attend.
